Dr. Joshua Stephens completed his undergraduate education at Troy University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology. He obtained his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a member of its inaugural class. As a first-year medical student, he was elected to a membership position on the school’s ethics committee, and during his second year of training, he was elevated to Chairperson of the school’s ethics committee.
He completed a traditional one-year rotating internship at Montgomery Regional Hospital and completed his psychiatric internship and residency training at University of South Alabama. Following his residency training, he developed and taught graduate medical education courses in psychopharmacology, as well as cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic psychotherapies.
Prior to joining Southern Psychiatry Associates, Dr. Stephens spent the past 10 years providing outpatient psychiatric care in both private practice and outpatient community mental healthcare across a number of Alabama’s rural and underserved communities.
He is board certified in Adult Psychiatry.
