Nicole Smith is a family nurse practitioner (FNP) and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) She is dual board certified by the American nurses credentialling center. Smith is a graduate of the University of Alabama where she received her undergraduate degree, masters of science in advanced nurse practice FNP and PMHNP, the Presidents award of Achievement, elected for Phi Theta Kappa Society of Nursing, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Nicole practices at our Mobile office and sees patients of all ages beginning at age 5. Nicole is also a member of the American Nurses Association, Alabama States Nurses Association, Strike Out of the Darkness suicide prevention organization, the Baldwin County Coalition for Cancer Awareness, and the Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association.

Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Nicole spent more than a decade working as a registered nurse in Texas and Alabama. She began in the intensive care unit working with the most critically ill patients in a neuroscience and stroke unit. While working in the ICU, Nicole earned her CCRN, a specialty certification for critical care registered nurses. After several years there, she eventually transitioned to the emergency room where she cared for patients experiencing trauma, cardiac, neurological, and psychiatric emergencies. In 2016-2020 she additionally worked as a nurse preceptor to train new nurses, served on a hospital neuro response team, first response team and Code Blue Team, all while working as an adjunct clinical instructor for a local community college.

It was during Nicole’s residency for her Master’s degree, that her love of psychiatry developed. It was during this time where she realized for the first time in her nursing career that she truly felt able to make a difference in the whole health of her patients, and began to understand the importance of mental health in each in every patient across the lifespan.

Nicole’s passions in healthcare include decreasing generational stigma attached to mental health, early intervention in pediatric mental health, decreasing domestic violence, and trauma recovery.

Outside of work, Nicole loves to travel, enjoys the outdoors, hiking, swimming, and live music. Can be found most weekends and evenings finding new outdoor adventures with her family, doing CrossFit and weightlifting with her family, running with friends, or volunteering with her church.

Nicole provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive therapy for patients experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar and other mood disorders, stress intolerance and recovery from addiction. Works with all of her patients to achieve full recovery, improved quality of life, and improved relationships and joy. Nicole is currently accepting new patients and offers some evening and Saturday appointments.
